In 2021, exports of extruders for working rubber or plastics in MERCOSUR stood at X units, surging by 4.9% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic extruder exports declined dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ecuador was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), mixing up a 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - Chile (X units) and Colombia (X units) - each accounted for a 5.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Ecuador (with a CAGR of +16.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest plastic extruder supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 2.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -14.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+3.1% per year) and Chile (-23.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -55.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 59%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, purchases abroad of extruders for working rubber or plastics was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 42%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic extruder imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was near 71% of total imports in 2021. Paraguay (X units) held a 7.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (5.3%) and Ecuador (5.1%). Argentina (X units), Colombia (X units) and Peru (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic extruder imports into Brazil stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Argentina (+9.2%), Paraguay (+6.6%) and Chile (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2021. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-7.7%) and Ecuador (-15.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+4.8 p.p.), Paraguay (+4.3 p.p.), Chile (+2.6 p.p.) and Argentina (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Colombia and Ecuador saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -10.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported extruders for working rubber or plastics in MERCOSUR, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.
In Brazil, plastic extruder imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+2.9% per year) and Colombia (+0.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
