The MERCOSUR fish parts market rose slightly to $X in 2022, growing by 1.9% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +18.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Peru ($X) and Ecuador ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +10.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 108% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+15.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, approx. X tons of fish heads, tails and maws were imported in MERCOSUR; growing by 40% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fish parts imports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 156%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Colombia (X tons) and Peru (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 91% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Suriname (X tons), achieving a 6.5% share of total imports. Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +29.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Peru ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fish heads, tails and maws in MERCOSUR, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Suriname ($X), with a 3% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 2.2% share.
