In 2021, overseas shipments of flywheels and pulleys were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, flywheels and pulleys exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the largest exporter of flywheels and pulleys in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together mixing up a 17% share of total exports. The following exporters - Peru (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) - each recorded a 3.5% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -3.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Paraguay (+84.6%), Colombia (+23.3%) and Peru (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +84.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-1.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Colombia (+5 p.p.) and Paraguay (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -7.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest flywheels and pulleys supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 2.1% share.

In Brazil, flywheels and pulleys exports decreased by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (-2.6% per year) and Peru (+3.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -3.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 14%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of flywheels and pulleys, when their volume increased by 49% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Paraguay (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of flywheels and pulleys. At the same time, Paraguay (+15.6%), Colombia (+8.6%), Ecuador (+4.4%) and Peru (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Colombia (+2.1 p.p.) and Paraguay (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flywheels and pulleys in MERCOSUR, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 9.8% share.

In Brazil, flywheels and pulleys imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+0.2% per year) and Chile (-2.2% per year).
