The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +24.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-1.2%), Brazil (-1.2%) and Colombia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile, Peru and Argentina increased by +16, +7.4 and +7.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported footwear with uppers of textile materials in MERCOSUR, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 14% share.
