In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 172%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape juice (single strength) exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 67%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the key exporter of grape juice (single strength), mixing up 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), creating a 26% share of total exports. Peru (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the grape juice (single strength) exports, with a CAGR of +39.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+15.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 150% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (-5.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Grape Juice (Single Strength)
Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, purchases abroad of grape juice (single strength) was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Overall, imports posted moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 325%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, grape juice (single strength) imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 447%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Venezuela (X tons) was the major importer of grape juice (single strength), creating 55% of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (12%) and Ecuador (5.7%). The following importers - Guyana (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) - together made up 8.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to grape juice (single strength) imports into Venezuela stood at +12.2%. At the same time, Paraguay (+44.4%), Chile (+7.7%) and Ecuador (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +44.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Guyana (-3.6%), Colombia (-10.3%) and Brazil (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Venezuela (+30 p.p.), Paraguay (+16 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Guyana, Brazil and Colombia saw its share reduced by -2.8%, -13.8% and -27.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Venezuela ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported grape juice (single strength) in MERCOSUR, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Paraguay ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 8.6% share.
In Venezuela, grape juice (single strength) imports increased at an average annual rate of +17.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Paraguay (+37.2% per year) and Colombia (-7.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period.
