The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Argentina (X tons) and Brazil (X tons).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +8.0%).
The average groundnuts yield stood at X tons per ha in 2022, with an increase of 1.6% on 2021 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of ground-nut (in-shell) were harvested in MERCOSUR; declining by -4.5% compared with the previous year. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to groundnuts production attained the peak figure at X ha in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports in MERCOSUR
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) decreased by -26.5% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 643% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, groundnuts exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 429% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Argentina prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), committing a 6.5% share of total exports. Peru (X tons), Paraguay (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ground-nut (in-shell). At the same time, Peru (+18.8%), Paraguay (+13.6%), Brazil (+10.7%) and Ecuador (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +18.8% from 2012-2022. Brazil (+3.8 p.p.), Peru (+3.5 p.p.) and Paraguay (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -8.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the largest groundnuts supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Argentina stood at +5.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+11.7% per year) and Paraguay (+11.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, groundnuts export price increased by +37.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of ground-nut (in-shell), when their volume decreased by -25.8% to X tons. Overall, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, groundnuts imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Uruguay (X tons) represented the major importer of ground-nut (in-shell), committing 37% of total imports. Peru (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Guyana (18%) and Chile (16%). The following importers - Venezuela (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Suriname (X tons) - each resulted at a 9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uruguay (with a CAGR of +30.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Uruguay ($X), Chile ($X) and Peru ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 80% share of total imports.
Uruguay, with a CAGR of +33.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -12.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
