Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,542% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,826% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 97% of total exports. Chile (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +39.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.
In Argentina, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports increased at an average annual rate of +43.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-12.1% per year) and Chile (+45.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -23.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 400% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+14.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports in MERCOSUR declined sharply to X tons, waning by -18.4% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 82% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons), committing a 6.1% share of total imports. Argentina (X tons) and Peru (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012-2021. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in MERCOSUR, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at -3.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ecuador (+3.2% per year) and Argentina (-5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment.
