In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 200%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hop exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 264% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) were the major exporters of hops in MERCOSUR, together making up 68% of total exports. Brazil (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Peru (16%).

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Brazil ($X per ton) and Colombia ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) and Argentina ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Hop imports declined significantly to X tons in 2022, dropping by -19.7% on the year before. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Brazil was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 53% of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X tons) and Chile (X tons) - each reached a 5.6% share of total imports.
Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Chile (+23.4%), Argentina (+10.8%) and Peru (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2022. Ecuador and Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Argentina (+6.9 p.p.) and Chile (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil and Colombia saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -6.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hops in MERCOSUR, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at +5.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (+15.1% per year) and Colombia (-0.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
