Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, shipments abroad of household dishwashing machines increased by 166% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, household dishwashing machine exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 95%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the major exporter of household dishwashing machines, comprising 59% of total exports. Chile (X units) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ecuador (14%) and Colombia (7.3%). Suriname (X units) held a little share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the household dishwashing machines exports, with a CAGR of +56.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ecuador (+31.9%), Colombia (+20.0%) and Suriname (+12.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Brazil (+56 p.p.), Ecuador (+10 p.p.) and Colombia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Chile (-58.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest household dishwashing machine supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Chile ($X), Ecuador ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 86% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Ecuador, with a CAGR of +37.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -53.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, overseas purchases of household dishwashing machines decreased by -41.6% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, household dishwashing machine imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the key importer of household dishwashing machines, making up 46% of total imports. Chile (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Argentina (12%), Colombia (8.2%) and Uruguay (4.8%). The following importers - Paraguay (X units) and Peru (X units) - each accounted for a 4% share of total imports.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of household dishwashing machines. At the same time, Paraguay (+12.3%), Peru (+10.1%), Chile (+8.0%), Colombia (+5.5%) and Uruguay (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +12.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile, Colombia and Uruguay increased by +11, +3.3 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 77% of total imports. Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Among the main importing countries, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Peru ($X per unit) and Paraguay ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) and Chile ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
