Brazil represented the major exporter of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 45% of total exports in 2022. Colombia (X units) took a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (24%).

In 2022, purchases abroad of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) decreased by -19.9% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 69%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, non-combined refrigerator-freezer imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Chile (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented roughly 56% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Peru (X units), Venezuela (X units), Colombia (X units) and Paraguay (X units), together constituting a 29% share of total imports. Argentina (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Paraguay ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 60% of total imports.

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year.
