The MERCOSUR household sewing machine market soared to $X in 2021, rising by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a mild setback. Exports by Country

Chile was the main exporter of household sewing machines in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 45% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Venezuela (X units), Uruguay (X units) and Brazil (X units), together constituting a 48% share of total exports. The following exporters - Colombia (X units) and Argentina (X units) - each finished at a 4.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest household sewing machine supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 5% share.

In Chile, household sewing machine exports declined by an average annual rate of -12.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-42.2% per year) and Uruguay (-7.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -35.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 216% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Venezuela ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of household sewing machines increased by 32% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Brazil (X units) was the main importer of household sewing machines, committing 41% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), Argentina (X units), Peru (X units) and Colombia (X units), together constituting a 52% share of total imports. Ecuador (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -3.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+9.7%), Ecuador (+8.2%), Chile (+3.2%), Argentina (+3.2%) and Colombia (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador increased by +6.4, +6.1, +3.7, +2.5 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 77% share of total imports. Colombia, Peru and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +6.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Peru ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
