In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile was the largest importer of industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. Paraguay (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Argentina (9.3%), Peru (5.4%), Brazil (5.4%) and Ecuador (4.8%). Uruguay (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables imports, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+11.7%), Uruguay (+9.2%), Argentina (+6.8%) and Peru (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Paraguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Brazil (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Peru increased by +44, +4.3, +3.1 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables in MERCOSUR, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 10% share.

In Brazil, fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (-0.5% per year) and Peru (+7.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
