In 2021, overseas shipments of jams, marmalades, fruit jellies, fruit or nut purees and pastes decreased by -0.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 16%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fruit or nut preserves exports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 8.6%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Chile represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together comprising a 32% share of total exports. Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Chile decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Brazil (+6.9%), Peru (+5.8%) and Ecuador (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Ecuador and Brazil increased by +7.7 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest fruit or nut preserves supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile totaled -5.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+4.0% per year) and Argentina (-6.4% per year).

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 2.1% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of jams, marmalades, fruit jellies, fruit or nut purees and pastes increased by 65% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
