Exports in MERCOSUR

Metal letter clip exports reached X tons in 2022, almost unchanged from the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal letter clip exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Colombia represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together creating a 25% share of total exports. Chile (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal letter clip exports from Colombia stood at -7.4%. At the same time, Peru (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012-2022. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Peru (+8.5 p.p.) and Brazil (+6.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Colombia (-14.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the largest metal letter clip supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Colombia amounted to -7.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+2.7% per year) and Peru (+5.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 24%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, approx. X tons of letter clips, letter corners of base metal were imported in MERCOSUR; dropping by -4% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal letter clip imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) represented the major importer of letter clips, letter corners of base metal in MERCOSUR, comprising 94% of total import. Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +3.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metal letter clip importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

Paraguay, with a CAGR of +5.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
