Lifting equipment exports contracted markedly to X units in 2021, waning by -23.5% on the year before. In general, exports, however, posted measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 374%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lifting equipment exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 216%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. Colombia (X units), Chile (X units) and Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+24.1%), Chile (+5.7%) and Colombia (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +24.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Peru increased by +1.5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest lifting equipment supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 1.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -2.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+20.5% per year) and Peru (+37.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, declining by -12.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 111% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+16.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Lifting Equipment Imports
Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, purchases abroad of lifting equipment increased by 25% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lifting equipment imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Argentina (X units), Chile (X units) and Paraguay (X units) represented the main importer of lifting equipment in MERCOSUR, mixing up 75% of total import. Peru (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.7% share, followed by Brazil (6%). Colombia (X units) and Venezuela (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +66.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Venezuela ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Peru, Paraguay, Argentina and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 35%.
Paraguay, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 53%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
