Exports in MERCOSUR
Loading machinery exports shrank slightly to X units in 2022, reducing by -4.1% on 2021 figures. Total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 51%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, loading machinery exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Colombia (X units), Argentina (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented roughly 75% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units) and Peru (X units), together making up a 21% share of total exports. Uruguay (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +24.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Argentina ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 73% share of total exports. Colombia, Uruguay and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +19.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Loading Machinery Imports
Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, approx. X units of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery were imported in MERCOSUR; flattening at the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 28%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, loading machinery imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X units) and Chile (X units) represented the main importers of lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery in 2022, accounting for near 27% and 25% of total imports, respectively. Argentina (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Peru (10%), Colombia (5.8%), Venezuela (5.5%) and Uruguay (5.3%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest loading machinery importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +8.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
