In 2022, the amount of machinery for packing or wrapping exported in MERCOSUR expanded markedly to X units, with an increase of 12% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, machinery for packing exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 13%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the major exporter of machinery for packing or wrapping in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. Argentina (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X units). All these countries together held near 16% share of total exports. Paraguay (X units), Colombia (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Peru (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to machinery for packing exports from Brazil stood at +4.8%. At the same time, Paraguay (+29.5%), Ecuador (+14.4%) and Peru (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2022. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-8.4%) and Colombia (-12.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+23 p.p.), Paraguay (+2.8 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia and Argentina saw its share reduced by -9.1% and -18.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest machinery for packing supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 5.5% share.

In Brazil, machinery for packing exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-7.4% per year) and Chile (-0.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR

Machinery for packing imports rose remarkably to X units in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, machinery for packing imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the main importer of machinery for packing or wrapping, comprising 40% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), Argentina (X units), Colombia (X units), Peru (X units) and Ecuador (X units), together comprising a 54% share of total imports. Paraguay (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of machinery for packing or wrapping. At the same time, Colombia (+4.5%), Paraguay (+3.5%), Ecuador (+3.2%), Peru (+3.2%) and Chile (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth.
