In value terms, paper bag machine exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 262% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 78% of total exports. Argentina (X units) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (5.6%) and Uruguay (5.6%).

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machines for making bags, sacks or envelopes of paper or paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012 to 2022. Chile and Uruguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Argentina (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. For the fifth year in a row, MERCOSUR recorded growth in overseas purchases of machines for making bags, sacks or envelopes of paper or paperboard, which increased by 10% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 148% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paper bag machine imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 217% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) represented the main importer of machines for making bags, sacks or envelopes of paper or paperboard, committing 35% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X units), Colombia (X units), Peru (X units), Ecuador (X units), Paraguay (X units) and Chile (X units), together constituting a 61% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Paraguay (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paper bag machine importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Colombia ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Peru, Paraguay, Chile and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of +48.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+15.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
