The MERCOSUR maltodextrine market rose modestly to $X in 2021, growing by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, shipments abroad of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 53%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, maltodextrine exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the largest exporter of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, creating 57% of total exports. Chile (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Argentina (16%). Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup. At the same time, Colombia (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +4.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-1.9%) and Argentina (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+13 p.p.) and Chile (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Argentina (-17.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest maltodextrine supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile stood at -4.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-2.6% per year) and Argentina (-9.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 43%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, supplies from abroad of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup increased by 12% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, maltodextrine imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the major importer of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 37% of total imports in 2021. Peru (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Colombia (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together held near 58% share of total imports. Uruguay (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
