Melamine resins exports soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 77% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, melamine resins exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Brazil dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), comprising a 6% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to melamine resins exports from Brazil stood at +13.5%. At the same time, Chile (+53.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-16.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+30 p.p.) and Chile (+5.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia saw its share reduced by -30.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest melamine resins supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 4.1% share of total exports.

In Brazil, melamine resins exports increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (-18.3% per year) and Chile (+28.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of melamine resins in primary forms, when their volume increased by 31% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, melamine resins imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) represented the major importers of melamine resins in primary forms in MERCOSUR, together constituting 65% of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (8.5%) and Chile (8%). Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Ecuador ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 79% of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile, Colombia and Peru, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Chile, with a CAGR of +11.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight contraction. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
