In value terms, mobile phone exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Chile was the main exporter of mobile phones in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units) and Peru (X units), together committing a 23% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mobile phone exports from Chile stood at -11.3%. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (-29.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+37 p.p.) and Peru (+9.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -49.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest mobile phone supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports.
In Chile, mobile phone exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-27.2% per year) and Peru (+3.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 5.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Peru ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+15.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, the amount of mobile phones imported in MERCOSUR soared to X units, growing by 19% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, mobile phone imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Colombia represented the major importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 41% of total imports. Peru (X units) held a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (9.7%), Chile (8.8%), Ecuador (5.2%) and Paraguay (5.1%). Venezuela (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ecuador (with a CAGR of +11.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Colombia ($X), Peru ($X) and Chile ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total imports.
Colombia, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 5.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mobile phone import price increased by +57.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
