In 2022, overseas shipments of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk increased by 9% to X litres, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X litres) was the main exporter of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, generating 40% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X litres), Brazil (X litres), Peru (X litres) and Uruguay (X litres), together comprising a 48% share of total exports. Suriname (X litres) and Chile (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports from Argentina stood at -5.3%. At the same time, Suriname (+39.3%), Uruguay (+30.0%) and Brazil (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Suriname emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +39.3% from 2012-2022. Colombia and Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-20.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Suriname increased by +9.4, +4.7, +4.2 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Argentina ($X), Colombia ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 76% of total exports. Peru, Chile, Uruguay and Suriname lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Suriname, with a CAGR of +36.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per litre in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per litre), while Uruguay ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk
Imports in MERCOSUR
For the seventh consecutive year, MERCOSUR recorded growth in purchases abroad of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, which increased by 15% to X litres in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X litres) and Chile (X litres) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X litres), Guyana (X litres) and Uruguay (X litres), together achieving a 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X litres) and Peru (X litres) - together made up 7.4% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Colombia (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk in MERCOSUR, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 15% share.
In Brazil, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+8.2% per year) and Colombia (+18.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
