Exports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, overseas shipments of non-medical x-rays decreased by -45.9% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 1,068% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 173%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 86% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X tons), creating a 6.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - Chile (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - together made up 6.7% of total exports.
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +28.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uruguay (+69.5%) and Argentina (+25.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +69.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+41 p.p.) and Uruguay (+6.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-19.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest non-medical x-ray supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil amounted to +21.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+1.3% per year) and Uruguay (+37.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, rising by 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, overseas purchases of non-medical x-rays decreased by -12.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil was the key importer of non-medical x-rays in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together comprising a 57% share of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +16.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-medical x-rays in MERCOSUR, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -8.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (+7.3% per year) and Chile (-14.0% per year).

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
