There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of nuts (prepared or preserved), when their volume increased by 25% to X tons. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, nuts (prepared or preserved) imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Brazil was the largest importer of nuts (prepared or preserved) in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 35% of total imports in 2021. Chile (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Colombia (13%), Argentina (10%) and Peru (7.9%). The following importers - Ecuador (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) - each reached an 8.7% share of total imports.
Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+14.6%), Uruguay (+9.9%), Chile (+8.5%), Peru (+7.9%), Argentina (+3.3%) and Ecuador (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +14.6% from 2012-2021. Brazil (+14 p.p.), Colombia (+7.3 p.p.), Chile (+4.9 p.p.), Peru (+1.9 p.p.) and Uruguay (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Colombia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 64% of total imports.
Colombia, with a CAGR of +15.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
