From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), constituting an 8.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to octyl alcohol exports from Brazil stood at -20.3%. At the same time, Chile (+66.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +66.7% from 2012-2022. The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 225%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, octyl alcohol imports in MERCOSUR declined to X tons, waning by -7.4% on 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, octyl alcohol imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 163% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Brazil was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 47% of total imports. Colombia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Argentina (X tons) and Chile (X tons). All these countries together took near 53% share of total imports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the octanol (octyl alcohol) and isomers thereof imports, with a CAGR of +80.8% from 2012 to 2022.
