Exports in MERCOSUR

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of oxygen-function amino-compounds increased by 15% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, oxygen-function amino-compound exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - each reached a 5.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -9.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-18.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Colombia increased by +2.2 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest oxygen-function amino-compound supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

In Brazil, oxygen-function amino-compound exports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (-15.8% per year) and Colombia (+8.1% per year).

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 110%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Oxygen-function amino-compound imports surged to X tons in 2021, growing by 16% on the year before. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +77.3% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, oxygen-function amino-compound imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil was the largest importer of oxygen-function amino-compounds in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Argentina (7.6%) and Peru (6.5%). The following importers - Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons) - together made up 8.9% of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+11.9%), Colombia (+11.8%), Peru (+10.1%) and Chile (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-2.1%) and Venezuela (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+14 p.p.) and Colombia (+5.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Chile, Venezuela and Argentina saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -7.7% and -10.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported oxygen-function amino-compounds in MERCOSUR, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to +6.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+4.7% per year) and Argentina (-1.2% per year).

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
