Particle Board Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR particle board market fell to $X in 2022, dropping by -11% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Particle Board Production in MERCOSUR

In value terms, particle board production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 1.5% against the previous year. In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of particle board, when their volume decreased by -1.4% to X cubic meters. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, particle board exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 36%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the key exporter of particle board in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports reaching X cubic meters, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X cubic meters) and Chile (X cubic meters), together generating a 50% share of total exports. Argentina (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +21.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest particle board supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Ecuador ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 97% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Brazil, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per cubic meter), while Brazil ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Particle Board Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, the amount of particle board imported in MERCOSUR shrank dramatically to X cubic meters, which is down by -25.6% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, particle board imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Peru (X cubic meters) was the main importer of particle board, constituting 50% of total imports. Colombia (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 30% share, followed by Argentina (7.3%) and Chile (6%). The following importers - Ecuador (X cubic meters) and Paraguay (X cubic meters) - together made up 5.5% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X), Colombia ($X) and Argentina ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 86% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Colombia, with a CAGR of +10.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per cubic meter, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Chile ($X per cubic meter) and Colombia ($X per cubic meter), while Peru ($X per cubic meter) and Ecuador ($X per cubic meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
