In 2021, the MERCOSUR bath preparations market increased by 4.2% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of perfumed bath salts and other bath preparations were finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 102%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bath preparations exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) represented roughly 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), achieving a 12% share of total exports. Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +40.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the largest bath preparations supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 30% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Argentina amounted to -7.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+5.4% per year) and Brazil (+16.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Bath preparations imports was estimated at X tons in 2021, increasing by 15% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bath preparations imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the three major importers of perfumed bath salts and other bath preparations, namely Colombia, Peru and Chile, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Suriname (X tons), Guyana (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest bath preparations importing markets in MERCOSUR were Chile ($X), Peru ($X) and Colombia ($X), together comprising 77% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
