The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 463%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Chile (X tons) and Peru (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 90% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), constituting a 6.9% share of total exports. Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +37.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Peru ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 92% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Colombia, which accounted for a further 3.6%.

Among the main exporting countries, Colombia, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a dramatic setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 52% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (-12.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, purchases abroad of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after six years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), generating a 9.5% share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -3.1% from 2012 to 2021. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile increased by +2.1 percentage points.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported phosphorus, arsenic and selenium in MERCOSUR, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 9% share of total imports.

In Brazil, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.7% over the period from 2012-2021.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 13%.
