In 2021, the MERCOSUR pile-driver market increased by 66% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 190% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of pile-drivers and pile-extractors increased by 63% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 103% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Chile (X units) was the major importer of pile-drivers and pile-extractors, achieving 43% of total imports. Peru (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Colombia (12%), Brazil (9.4%), Suriname (8.4%) and Paraguay (6.2%). Uruguay (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pile-drivers and pile-extractors imports, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uruguay (+29.2%), Suriname (+14.1%) and Paraguay (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Peru (-3.1%), Brazil (-7.1%) and Colombia (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+40 p.p.), Suriname (+6.4 p.p.), Uruguay (+3.4 p.p.) and Paraguay (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil and Colombia saw its share reduced by -5% and -8.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pile-drivers and pile-extractors in MERCOSUR, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.

In Chile, pile-driver imports increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-28.6% per year) and Colombia (-13.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, falling by -65.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price faced a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 86% against the previous year.
