Cement Pipe Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR cement pipe market contracted to $X in 2022, declining by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Cement pipe exports rose rapidly to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 9.2% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 258% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, cement pipe exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 160% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), creating a 21% share of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - each finished at a 3.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +33.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Chile (+61.2%) and Argentina (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +61.2% from 2012-2022. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (+60 p.p.) and Chile (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia and Argentina saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -3.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest cement pipe supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil totaled +34.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+67.5% per year) and Colombia (+0.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 73%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Cement Pipe Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

For the fourth year in a row, MERCOSUR recorded growth in supplies from abroad of pipes and other articles of cement, which increased by 19% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +97.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, cement pipe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) was the largest importer of pipes and other articles of cement, creating 40% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Peru (X tons). All these countries together held near 54% share of total imports. The following importers - Venezuela (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - together made up 4.2% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +39.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 79% of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
