The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, spectacle plastic frame exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 163% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units), generating a 9% share of total exports. Chile (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles exports, with a CAGR of +61.5% from 2012 to 2021. Chile represented the largest importer of plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was approx. 43% of total imports in 2021. Peru (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Brazil (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Colombia (X units). All these countries together took near 50% share of total imports. Argentina (X units) and Paraguay (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Ecuador (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Peru ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 63% of total imports. Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Among the main importing countries, Colombia, with a CAGR of +19.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, declining by -15.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 4.2% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
