In 2021, overseas shipments of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant contraction. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lamp plastic parts exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporter of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 54% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Peru (8.6%), Colombia (8%) and Paraguay (6.6%). The following exporters - Chile (X kg) and Uruguay (X kg) - together made up 4.8% of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Paraguay (+42.5%), Uruguay (+8.9%), Peru (+7.3%) and Chile (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-25.8%) and Argentina (-33.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+52 p.p.), Peru (+8 p.p.), Paraguay (+6.5 p.p.), Chile (+2.4 p.p.) and Uruguay (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Colombia (-6.1 p.p.) and Argentina (-64.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest lamp plastic parts supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 7.6% share.

In Brazil, lamp plastic parts exports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-30.2% per year) and Paraguay (+37.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, supplies from abroad of plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lamp plastic parts imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (11%), Peru (7.3%), Chile (6.7%) and Venezuela (4.5%). Paraguay (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings imports, with a CAGR of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+4.2%) and Paraguay (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Peru (-7.0%), Colombia (-8.8%), Venezuela (-13.0%) and Chile (-20.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Argentina increased by +28 and +11 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic parts for lamps and lighting fittings in MERCOSUR, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to +6.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+5.5% per year) and Colombia (-3.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, lamp plastic parts import price increased by +67.8% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
