The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 7.5%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Brazil (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main exporters of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip in 2021, recording approx. 36% and 30% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons), together generating a 29% share of total exports. In 2021, supplies from abroad of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) was the largest importer of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip in MERCOSUR, committing 78% of total import. Peru (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 15% share of total imports. Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Brazil ($X per ton) and Colombia ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) and Peru ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
