Peru dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons), making up a 6.9% share of total exports. Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Peru increased at an average annual rate of +43.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ecuador (+54.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +54.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Brazil (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Peru (+66 p.p.) and Ecuador (+6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -53.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the largest pyrites supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports.

In Peru, pyrites exports increased at an average annual rate of +31.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ecuador (+45.8% per year) and Brazil (-1.5% per year).

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -12.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 49%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) was the largest importer of pyrites, generating 59% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Colombia (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Chile (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - each recorded a 4.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pyrites imports into Brazil stood at +7.7%. At the same time, Colombia (+32.9%), Argentina (+19.9%), Venezuela (+8.4%) and Ecuador (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Argentina and Colombia increased by +13 and +6.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pyrites in MERCOSUR, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at +9.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (+18.7% per year) and Colombia (+25.7% per year).
