Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, shipments abroad of radio navigational aid apparatus decreased by -15.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 13%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radio navigation apparatus exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporter of radio navigational aid apparatus in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 68% of total exports in 2021. Chile (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (7.5%) and Peru (5.7%). Colombia (X kg) and Ecuador (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -13.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+11.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-2.7%), Argentina (-18.0%), Ecuador (-23.2%) and Colombia (-26.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+8 p.p.), Brazil (+5.5 p.p.) and Peru (+5.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia saw its share reduced by -3.6%, -3.6% and -9.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest radio navigation apparatus supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 5% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 3% share.

In Brazil, radio navigation apparatus exports shrank by an average annual rate of -9.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (-0.2% per year) and Argentina (-20.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 53% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of radio navigational aid apparatus increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radio navigation apparatus imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the main importer of radio navigational aid apparatus, mixing up 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons), Chile (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together constituting a 49% share of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -3.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+6.6%) and Chile (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +6.6% from 2012-2021. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-1.5%), Argentina (-1.6%) and Paraguay (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+4.8 p.p.), Ecuador (+3 p.p.) and Peru (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Paraguay (-2.2 p.p.) and Brazil (-8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radio navigational aid apparatus in MERCOSUR, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 9.3% share.

In Brazil, radio navigation apparatus imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (-1.5% per year) and Argentina (-0.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%.
