Raspberry And Blackberry Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR raspberry and blackberry market rose to $X in 2022, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. In value terms, raspberry and blackberry production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +5.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 35% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Chile (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of raspberry and blackberry production, comprising approx. 96% of total volume. It was followed by Peru (X tons), with a 2.3% share of total production.

In Chile, raspberry and blackberry production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022.

The average raspberry and blackberry yield dropped slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the raspberry and blackberry yield attained the peak level at X tons per ha in 2021, and then shrank in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the harvested area of raspberries and blackberries in MERCOSUR was estimated at X ha, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the harvested area, however, saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 36%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Raspberry And Blackberry Exports

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of raspberries and blackberries, when their volume decreased by -18.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 437% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 169% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Peru (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main exporters of raspberries and blackberries in MERCOSUR, together amounting to near 85% of total exports. Argentina (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Colombia (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +54.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 95% of total exports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +63.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Raspberry And Blackberry Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

For the fourth year in a row, MERCOSUR recorded decline in purchases abroad of raspberries and blackberries, which decreased by -8.7% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Guyana prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 96% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Brazil (X kg) and Peru (X kg) - each accounted for a 3.8% share of total imports.

Imports into Guyana increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Peru (+16.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Brazil (-34.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Guyana (+78 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -59% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Guyana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries and blackberries in MERCOSUR, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Guyana amounted to +26.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Peru (+20.6% per year) and Brazil (-34.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -11.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Guyana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
