In 2021, the MERCOSUR resinoids market increased by 8.6% to $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of resinoids, when their volume decreased by -96.3% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 2,858% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, resinoids exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 708% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Colombia (X tons) represented the main exporter of resinoids, constituting 51% of total exports. Argentina (X kg) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Brazil (X kg) and Ecuador (X kg). All these countries together took near 40% share of total exports. Peru (X kg), Chile (X kg) and Paraguay (X kg) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to resinoids exports from Colombia stood at -21.6%. At the same time, Chile (+40.1%) and Brazil (+21.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +40.1% from 2012-2021. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) emerged as the largest resinoids supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at +24.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+0.2% per year) and Argentina (-6.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 279% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw resilient growth. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Resinoids Imports
Imports in MERCOSUR
Resinoids imports expanded slightly to X tons in 2021, growing by 4.8% on 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, resinoids imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Colombia was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 42% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (9.4%), Guyana (6.4%), Peru (5.7%) and Chile (5%). Suriname (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Colombia (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest resinoids importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Colombia ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising 90% of total imports. Chile, Peru, Guyana and Suriname lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.4%.
Guyana, with a CAGR of +11.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -24.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guyana (+16.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
