Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) exports soared to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Venezuela (+86.5%), Colombia (+7.7%) and Uruguay (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +86.5% from 2012-2022. Guyana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Paraguay (-4.1%), Peru (-5.8%) and Ecuador (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Guyana, Uruguay and Venezuela increased by +9.6, +5.9, +3.2 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest sawnwood (non-coniferous) supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+0.4% per year) and Uruguay (+11.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per cubic meter), while Venezuela ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guyana (+12.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of sawnwood (non-coniferous) increased by 39% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile was the key importer of sawnwood (non-coniferous) in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports reaching X cubic meters, which was approx. 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X cubic meters), Uruguay (X cubic meters) and Argentina (X cubic meters), together constituting a 24% share of total imports. Paraguay (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports, with a CAGR of +27.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Paraguay (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Uruguay (-2.9%), Argentina (-12.9%) and Brazil (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile increased by +66 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Uruguay ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 76% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +4.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per cubic meter, which is down by -43.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per cubic meter), while Chile ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
