In 2022, overseas shipments of seats for motor vehicles increased by 60% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vehicle seat exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil prevails in exports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2022. Peru (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.6% share, followed by Ecuador (5%). The following exporters - Colombia (X units), Argentina (X units) and Uruguay (X units) - together made up 7% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vehicle seat exports from Brazil stood at -16.5%. At the same time, Uruguay (+51.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +51.7% from 2012-2022. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ecuador (-17.3%), Colombia (-19.8%) and Argentina (-25.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Peru and Uruguay increased by +6.3 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest vehicle seat supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at -12.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Peru (+2.3% per year) and Argentina (-22.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -13.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a tangible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Uruguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, imports of seats for motor vehicles in MERCOSUR reduced to X units, waning by -6.7% compared with the year before. In general, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 133% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vehicle seat imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Brazil was the main importer of seats for motor vehicles in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 58% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), Uruguay (X units) and Colombia (X units), together creating a 35% share of total imports. Argentina (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of seats for motor vehicles. At the same time, Chile (+10.1%), Colombia (+9.5%) and Uruguay (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +10.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+12 p.p.), Brazil (+8.4 p.p.), Uruguay (+6.7 p.p.) and Colombia (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Argentina (-17.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported seats for motor vehicles in MERCOSUR, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil totaled +8.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+10.2% per year) and Uruguay (+12.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
