Exports in MERCOSUR
Semiconductor device exports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, growing by 156% against 2020. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, semiconductor device exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 377%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Brazil dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Venezuela (X units) and Chile (X units) - together made up 5.4% of total exports.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -16.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Venezuela (+66.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +66.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-21.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Venezuela (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-1.6 p.p.) and Brazil (-4.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) emerged as the largest semiconductor device supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Venezuela ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.
In Brazil, semiconductor device exports shrank by an average annual rate of -7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Venezuela (+105.9% per year) and Chile (-16.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 618% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Venezuela (+23.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, semiconductor device imports in MERCOSUR soared to X units, jumping by 37% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor device imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Colombia (X units), distantly followed by Guyana (X units), Argentina (X units), Ecuador (X units), Suriname (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented the key importers of semiconductor devices, together committing 96% of total imports. Chile (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Suriname (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semiconductor devices in MERCOSUR, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -20.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+3.0% per year) and Argentina (-1.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, falling by -17.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 170% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Suriname (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+1.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
