Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 1,409%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, semiconductor LED exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 401%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X units) and Venezuela (X units) were the largest exporters of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in MERCOSUR, together resulting at approx. 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units) and Colombia (X units), together achieving a 27% share of total exports. Peru (X units) and Argentina (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Venezuela (with a CAGR of +112.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest semiconductor LED supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at +4.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+10.4% per year) and Colombia (+0.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, surging by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Venezuela ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

Semiconductor LED imports soared to X units in 2021, rising by 107% on the year before. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 156% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 89% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X units), Chile (X units) and Argentina (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) imports, with a CAGR of +90.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+56.4%), Colombia (+49.7%) and Chile (+40.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Brazil (+57 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina, Colombia and Chile saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -9.4% and -17.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in MERCOSUR, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 5.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at +38.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+26.1% per year) and Colombia (+23.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 9.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, faced a significant decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Chile ($X per unit) and Colombia ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) and Argentina ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (-10.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
