In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest sewing thread supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled -2.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (-9.5% per year) and Chile (+9.9% per year).

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 2%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, the amount of sewing thread of man-made filaments or staple fibers imported in MERCOSUR reduced to X tons, falling by -5.5% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, sewing thread imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Peru (X tons), distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Chile (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) represented the main importers of sewing thread of man-made filaments or staple fibers, together creating 91% of total imports. Venezuela (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +6.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
