The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented the main exporters of silver in semi-manufactured forms in 2021, resulting at approx. 44% and 35% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), making up a 17% share of total exports. Colombia (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +35.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the largest semi-manufactured silver supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with an 8.3% share.

In Peru, semi-manufactured silver exports increased at an average annual rate of +63.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-28.3% per year) and Chile (-5.5% per year).

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, surging by 56% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+20.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of silver in semi-manufactured forms increased by 56% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, semi-manufactured silver imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) dominates imports structure, together making up 75% of total imports. Colombia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.3% share, followed by Chile (6.5%) and Ecuador (5.7%). Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ecuador (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silver in semi-manufactured forms in MERCOSUR, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled +1.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (-7.5% per year) and Colombia (+0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, semi-manufactured silver import price decreased by -4.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 37%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
