Colombia (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented roughly 85% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Venezuela (X tons), generating a 10% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Venezuela (with a CAGR of +52.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest mineral wool supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Colombia ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 82% of total exports. Venezuela and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Venezuela, with a CAGR of +41.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 3.4%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of slag wool, rock wool and similar mineral wools and mixtures were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mineral wool imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Peru (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented roughly 64% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (7.1%), Ecuador (7%) and Argentina (6.3%). Venezuela (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Peru ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 73% of total imports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +7.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
