Exports by Country
Chile was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons), committing a 39% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of -24.1%).
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest snail supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with an 8% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a strong expansion. In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of snails (except sea snails), when their volume decreased by -38.3% to X kg. In general, imports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 700%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, snail imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 306%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Guyana represented the largest importer of snails (except sea snails) in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports finishing at X kg, which was near 81% of total imports in 2022. Argentina (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Uruguay (5.2%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to snail imports into Guyana stood at -37.0%. Uruguay and Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Guyana, Argentina and Uruguay increased by +80, +12 and +4.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest snail importing markets in MERCOSUR were Argentina ($X), Guyana ($X) and Uruguay ($X), together comprising 82% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Argentina, with a CAGR of 0.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, rising by 146% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 1,932%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
