Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, the amount of spherical roller bearings exported in MERCOSUR dropped rapidly to X tons, reducing by -26.5% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 205%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spherical roller bearing exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 114%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the key exporter of spherical roller bearings in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 77% of total exports in 2021. Peru (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (5%). Chile (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -1.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+40.1%) and Argentina (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +40.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Peru and Argentina increased by +11 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest spherical roller bearing supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 3.9% share.

In Brazil, spherical roller bearing exports declined by an average annual rate of -2.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (+37.7% per year) and Chile (-16.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Spherical roller bearing imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, picking up by 38% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the main importer of spherical roller bearings in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 71% of total imports in 2021. Chile (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons). All these countries together took near 28% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to spherical roller bearing imports into Brazil stood at +3.4%. At the same time, Chile (+7.1%) and Peru (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2021. Colombia and Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Chile (+3.2 p.p.) and Brazil (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Colombia (-1.6 p.p.) and Argentina (-2.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported spherical roller bearings in MERCOSUR, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with an 8.6% share.

In Brazil, spherical roller bearing imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+5.6% per year) and Peru (+1.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, growing by 8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Chile ($X per ton) and Peru ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) and Argentina ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
