In 2022, the MERCOSUR hand stamp market increased by 5.2% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hand stamp exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile (X units) and Brazil (X units) dominates exports structure, together creating 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units), making up a 6.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X units) and Paraguay (X units) - together made up 6.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Paraguay (with a CAGR of +98.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest hand stamp supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Colombia ($X), together accounting for 96% of total exports. Argentina and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 3.2%.

Paraguay, with a CAGR of +34.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, hand stamp export price decreased by -18.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 41%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, overseas purchases of stamps for use in the hand increased by 5.3% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hand stamp imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil was the largest importer of stamps for use in the hand in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 43% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X units), Chile (X units), Peru (X units), Colombia (X units) and Ecuador (X units), together creating a 52% share of total imports. Paraguay (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Chile (+8.3%), Peru (+6.7%) and Paraguay (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Colombia (-2.1%), Ecuador (-3.0%) and Argentina (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+8.6 p.p.), Peru (+8 p.p.), Brazil (+5 p.p.), Colombia (+1.8 p.p.) and Paraguay (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -16.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Peru ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 61% of total imports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
