Exports in MERCOSUR

For the third year in a row, MERCOSUR recorded growth in shipments abroad of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic, which increased by 28% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +87.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +106.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 59%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Argentina (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Peru (X tons) represented roughly 95% of total exports in 2022. Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +38.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Colombia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 77% share of total exports.

Chile, with a CAGR of +23.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, approx. X tons of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic were imported in MERCOSUR; declining by -2.8% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 29%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented the main importer of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic in MERCOSUR, creating 70% of total import. Venezuela (X tons) held a 9.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (6.8%) and Argentina (6%). Ecuador (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 67% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +3.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, waning by -5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
