In value terms, the largest sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Peru ($X) and Colombia ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Chile and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, purchases abroad of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers increased by 29% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.1% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In terms of the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +18.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 6.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
